Arc of Play
Mixed Media on Canvas
(Photograph printed on canvas with hand-painted layers)
60cm x 90cm Original Art I 1 only
Arc of Play focuses on the sweeping curve of a basketball court’s painted boundary, revealing the worn textures and layered surfaces that accumulate over time on outdoor courts.
The broad arc divides the canvas into contrasting colour fields while the cracked paint and mottled blues introduce a sense of age and history. The geometry of the court becomes a quiet study of surface, line and movement.
The work began as an original photograph of the court before being printed onto canvas and reworked by hand. Painted layers were applied across sections of the surface to soften the photographic image and emphasise the textures and structural lines.
Part of the Lines of Play series, the work transforms a familiar sporting surface into an abstract composition of colour, curvature and time.
